Sports Editor for BBC News, Dan Roan, Hosts Brief Building Tour at Media City!

Massive thank you from Fleet to Dan Roan for hosting the students of Shacklewell School, Hackney, on a virtual tour of Media City Salford.

The tour was part of the brief building and engagement process for a media centre we are working on with the New Wave Federation in Hackney. The event included an excellent Q&A where the children really turned the tables on the reporter!

  • You’ve interviewed some amazing sports stars, but who would you interview given the choice (alive now or from history)?
  • What other job in TV would you do if not a reporter?
  • Do you get nervous?
  • How do you become a reporter on TV?
  • Which event you have reported on is the most important to you?
  • What do you think of the social media blackout form football and other sports teams?
Dan led an initial tour of the ground floor of Media City and showed a report being filmed in the BBC Sports News Studio.  He showed the equipment behind the scenes, including, pedals the presenters use to control the flow of the show, cameras, oceans of lighting and autocues (which he explained).
We then went behind the scenes to see all the different jobs, including the numerous producers and the ‘gantry’ areas where live shows are managed from.  We also saw edit suites both for visuals and sound.
Dan took us into a virtual studio (green screen) and a make-up room.
